Resumen:
The international statistics show a reduction in the number of students engaged in technology related degrees (such as computer science & engineering). This tendency is most remarkable in the diminish of the proportion of female students. The present paper illustrates the actual situation in National University of La Plata in the context of argentine universities. In particular, we analyze the gender situation in the basic sciences courses (Computer Science, Engineering, Exact Sciences) in the last 8 years, both for the degree courses and university extension courses. There is a general perception that each year there are less women involved in hard science activities, and the present work provides objective data to establish the situation in perspective of the presence of women in these areas, taking as a case study the situation in the UNLP, being the third largest university in the country. The study provides real data in order to check if the policies in course should be revised.
